COVID-19 Series (2): Slow Is Smooth, Smooth Is Fast. Patients First. Always - Featuring Colonel David King, Trauma Surgeon

Episode Summary

Dr. Ron Hirschberg talks with Colonel David King, Trauma Surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, and combat veteran in the U.S. Army Reserve about service, military support and above all, compassion for our patients during this this trying time. Through multiple overseas deployments and as one of MGH's physician leaders following the Boston Marathon Bombing, Dr. King's recent tweet resonates: "Be cool. And be calm. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Work through the objective. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. Focus on the mission. This panic-craziness has to stop. Think clearly. Do things that help and make sense. Don’t be reactive...be proactive. Patients first. Always."

MGH EMERGENCY RESPONSE FUND:

The Emergency Response Fund was established to support Massachusetts General Hospital’s immediate response to devastating events like the fast-moving global spread of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus. Mass General’s Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) team, which has been active since late January, is continuing to monitor the disease spread and the changing guidelines while directing the hospital’s ongoing response to this evolving global health crisis.

Our emergency preparedness measures are comprehensive. Fail-safe and rigorously-tested procedures are in place to deal with cases as they arise. The combination of deep subject matter expertise and strong management systems ensures that our patients and the community are receiving the best possible care from our clinicians during this volatile public health situation
